Police team attacked, uniforms torn during Pratapgarh raid
PRAYAGRAJ, March 25 -- A police team probing a complaint of an armed chase between two rival groups was allegedly assaulted in Pratapgarh on Monday evening, with attackers tearing officers' uniforms and ripping off their badges, officials said. A case has been registered against eight named individuals, including history-sheeter Imran, and two unidentified persons, they added.
Police said Imran, a resident of Upadhyaypur under Antu police station, had an ongoing dispute with relatives in Kakarha following a clash during a cricket match. On Monday, he allegedly reached the village with associates, armed with country-made pistols, and provoked the rival group.
Acting on a tip-off, ARTO outpost in-charge Ram Naresh and his team reached the spot. Imran attempted to flee; though briefly caught, he slipped out of his t-shirt and ran towards his house, allegedly carrying a pistol in his waistband. Police followed to conduct a search.
As officers tried to enter the house, family members allegedly abused and attacked them. During the scuffle, the uniforms of Ram Naresh and constables Vinod and Pawan Maurya were torn, and their badges forcibly removed.
Reinforcements arrived shortly, and two persons were detained. Based on Ram Naresh's complaint, a case has been registered against Imran Khan, Mashook Ali, Azizul Rahman, Majda, Amreen, Yasmeen, Tafseer, Ashhad, and two unidentified persons. Antu station officer Abhishek Singh Sirohi said teams have been deployed to arrest the accused.
A minor girl in Kaushambi's Manjhanpur area was allegedly sexually assaulted by a neighbour, who later forced her to take some pills leading to the termination of her pregnancy, police said. The accused has been detained.
According to a complaint filed by the girl's mother, the incident occurred several months ago, but the minor remained silent due to fear and social pressure. The family learnt about the incident after her miscarriage on March 22. When confronted, the accused allegedly abused and threatened the family. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS pertaining to offences against children and forced termination of pregnancy.
Manjhanpur station officer Sunil Kumar Singh said the accused has been held and will be produced before court after due procedure.
A man allegedly lured two minor children into an abandoned house in Kaushambi's Kokhraj area, exposed them to objectionable content, and attempted to sexually assault one of them, police said. According to a complaint filed by a family member, the incident occurred on Monday when an eight-year-old girl was playing near her home. The accused allegedly enticed her and another six-year-old child with sweets and took them to a deserted house.
He then showed them inappropriate material and attempted to assault the girl. Hearing their cries, locals rushed to the spot, prompting the accused to flee. Inspector Chandrabhushan Maurya said a case has been registered under BNS provisions related to offences against minors, and further investigation is underway.

Earlier, investigating officer (IO) Anil Singh was suspended for failing to act during the probe, which began only after senior officials intervened.
According to police, Lal Bahadur, a resident of Sujaha village under Raniganj police station, had accused his neighbours of trespassing, assault, and looting.
