AYODHYA, June 5 -- A group of saffron-clad men allegedly assaulted a young couple in public parks in Ayodhya, claiming that their presence was desecrating the religious city's sanctity. A video purportedly showing the incident went viral on social media on Thursday, prompting police to launch a probe. The footage shows the group confronting a young couple sitting in Tulsi Udyan, allegedly abusing and assaulting them. The group approached them, hurled abuses and began beating the young man. The situation soon escalated, creating chaos in the area. The video further shows the young man being chased out of the park and onto a nearby road, where he was allegedly assaulted again. The young woman is seen attempting to intervene and rescue him. Ayodhya ASP Chakrapani Tripathi said the police had taken cognisance of the matter.
