PIL seeking CBI probe, CAG audit listed for hearing today
Lucknow, June 18 -- A public interest litigation (PIL) filed before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court in connection with the alleged embezzlement of donations collected from donation boxes at the Ram temple in Ayodhya will be heard on Thursday.
The PIL, seeking a CBI inquiry and a CAG audit, was filed on Friday. The petition is listed for hearing at serial number 466 on the cause list of June 18 before the summer vacation division bench of Justice Saurabh Lavania and Justice Pramod Kumar Srivastava.
The petitioner's lawyer said that in view of the seriousness of the matter, he will request the court for an early hearing on Thursday.
Mohit Ashok, a local advocate, filed the PIL. It urges the court to direct the CBI to investigate the alleged embezzlement and register a case. It also requested that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit the cash, gold, silver and other valuables received as offerings in donation boxes at the temple.
The petitioner has made the Central government, the principal secretary of the state government's Vigilance Department, the CBI director, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, through its chairperson, opposite parties to the petition....
