New Delhi, Aug. 5 -- The next sittings of the Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the 'One Nation, One Election' (ONOE) bills will be held on August 11 and 19, with participation from legal experts and members of civil society, including former Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna. The panel headed by BJP's PP Chaudhary is also drawing up a list of economists including former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan and former planning commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia. "We do want to call them to get their opinion on how much money can be saved by holding simultaneous polls,'' said Chaudhary. There's no confirmation of a date for such an interaction yet. According to the schedule, the next sitting on August 11 will see consultations with former UGC members G Gopal Reddy and Sushma Yadava, ex-Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Rashtriya Samaj Vigya Parishad (RSVP) general secretary Sheila Raj and political science professor Nani Gopal Mahanta of Gauhati University. On August 19, the committee will consult former CJI Sanjeev Khanna. These discussions are part of efforts to scrutinise the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024....
