Officials warned of lapses as diarrhoea cases increase
LUCKNOW, Aug. 25 -- Rising cases of diarrhoea in Sector 7 of Jankipuram Extension have prompted Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) to step in with urgent measures, with municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar warning officials and departments that "strict action will follow if lapses are found."
The civic body, along with the district health department, launched a joint inspection on Sunday to address contaminated water and poor sanitation, according to an LMC note.
The total number of reported diarrhoea cases in Sector 7 has now reached 58.
The municipal commissioner was joined by several officials to review the water supply system in the affected pockets. Pipelines were checked for leakage and contamination, and emergency chlorination was ordered, the release said.
Kumar directed that chlorine tablets be distributed to every household and bleaching powder be sprayed in drains to prevent the spread of infection. He also asked health teams to conduct door-to-door visits to spread awareness and ensure that patients receive timely medical care.
The Jal Kal department was instructed to repair faulty pipelines immediately, while sanitation workers were told to clean drains daily and use bleaching powder extensively.
According to the note, the Urban Primary Health Centre, Jankipuram, surveyed 246 households, set up a medical camp, and examined 31 patients. Six patients showing symptoms were treated, while two others required hospitalisation. HTC...
