NIT Kurukshetra director's powers revoked, govt forms review panel
Karnal, March 31 -- The Union ministry of education has withdrawn the administrative and financial powers of the director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra, professor BV Ramana Reddy, with immediate effect.
An official order was issued by the ministry's department of higher education on Sunday. The government has also decided to form a committee to review the institute's work, progress, affairs, and the director's leadership role. The reason for the move, however, wasn't mentioned in the order.
The three-member committee will submit its report in a month. HT has a copy of the order.
As per the NITSER Act, the President of India is the Visitor of NIT, Kurukshetra.
The Board of Governors is responsible for the general superintendence, direction and control of the affairs of the Institute, while the director is the principle academic and executive officer of the institute responsible for proper administration.
In exercise of the powers conferred in the Act, the President constituted a committee to review the work and progress and to hold inquiries into the affairs of NIT Kurukshetra. The panel, comprising National Education Technology Forum chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe; VNIT (Nagpur) chairperson M Madan Gopal; and MANIT (Bhopal) director KK Shukla, will examine the institute's functioning.
As per the order, the Registrar has been asked to safeguard and provide all requisite records to the committee and ensure full cooperation from all concerned faculty, staff and other stakeholders so as to facilitate the committee....
