NGT gives four more weeks to CGWA to file compliance report
LUCKNOW, July 10 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has granted the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) four more weeks to comply with its earlier directives to file a block-wise groundwater management report for Lucknow district. A bench of Justice Prakash Shrivastava, NGT chairperson, and Afroz Ahmad, expert member, passed the order on July 3. The Principal Bench, New Delhi, of the NGT was hearing the original application arising from a news report highlighting the alarming decline in groundwater levels in Lucknow.
The NGT recalled its order dated March 19, 2026, in which the CGWA was directed to place on record block-wise groundwater management plans for the blocks concerned and verify the compliance status of these plans based on the information submitted by the Lucknow DM. The NGT granted four more weeks for compliance on the request of the counsel for the CGWA. The bench listed the case for the next hearing on September 21. htc...
