Bhopal/New Delhi, July 30 -- The Madhya Pradesh government has announced that it will procure 60% of moong (green gram) from each eligible farmer, up from the earlier limit of 25%, with state agriculture minister Aidal Singh Kansana saying the decision was taken after a late-evening meeting on Wednesday with representatives of 16 farmer organisations. Earlier, chief minister Mohan Yadav set up a four-member panel to hold talks with farmers protesting for the past three days for complete procurement of moong and scrapping of the e-token system for fertiliser distribution. "In districts like Narmadapuram, Sehore and Harda, the yield is about three quintals per acre. This decision will be effective immediately, and our effort will be to ensure maximum farmers get the benefit," Kansana said. The minister also declared that the slot booking and procurement period would be extended by 10 days. In addition, a high-level committee will be formed to examine problems related to the e-token system and submit recommendations to the state government. "Until the recommendations are received and improvements are made, fertilizer distribution through the e-token system is being suspended with immediate effect," Kansana added. Meanwhile, in a letter to the chief minister, Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Centre had already approved procurement of the state's up to 454,580 metric tonnes of moong under the Price Support Scheme for the 2025-26 summer season, accounting for 87% of the total approval of 523,243 tonnes for all states combined. Chouhan also pointed out that, as of July 29, the state had procured only around 60,000 tonnes of moong, despite a higher allocation. "In the larger interest of farmers, the state government is requested to ensure that moong procurement is expedited at the earliest," he said in the letter, adding that any additional central approval beyond the prescribed ceiling can be considered only under specific conditions and after examination by the Committee of Secretaries....
