Meerut, Aug. 28 -- A case of swine flu (H1N1) has been detected in Moradabad after nearly a decade, prompting the health department to step up surveillance and preparedness measures. A 30-year-old woman doctor, who travelled from Ghaziabad to her parental home in the city's Jigar Colony, has tested positive for the viral infection. The development has triggered concern among health officials, who have isolated the doctor at a private hospital and began screening members of her family. The woman's health is being closely monitored. The patient lives in Ghaziabad and had arrived in Moradabad just two days before she developed symptoms. During her stay, she developed a high fever accompanied by cough, sore throat, headache and body aches. She subsequently underwent the required medical tests, which confirmed that she had contracted H1N1, commonly known as swine flu. The health department has also activated its Rapid Response Team following the detection of the case. Officials have issued an advisory and directed health facilities to remain prepared for possible additional patients, said chief medical officer Dr Kuldeep Singh.
