New Delhi/Lucknow/Shimla/Chennai, Dec. 7 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the country to pay tributes to the architect of Indian Constitution Babasaheb Dr BR Ambedkar on his 69th death anniversary, marked as "Mahaparinirvan Diwas", on Saturday. Various events were held across the country to mark the solemn occasion. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also joined Modi in offering floral tributes to Ambedkar at the Prerana Sthal on Parliament premises. In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, "Remembering Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice, equality and constitutionalism continue to guide our national journey. He inspired generations to uphold human dignity and strengthen democratic values. May his ideals keep lighting our path as we work towards building a Viksit Bharat." "On Mahaparinirvan Diwas, I pay my humble tributes to Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the principal architect of our Constitution and a towering champion of social justice," Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan said in a post on X. "Ambedkar ji is an icon. He showed a path to the entire country, he gave us the Constitution. So, we remember him and protect his ideas and the Constitution," Gandhi said. In Lucknow, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath said the state government is committed to protecting the legacy of Babasaheb and implementing his vision of justice, equality and fraternity. "Babasaheb has inspired every Indian. He would say that our identity is not by my family, my caste, my region and my language. But, every Indian should have a feeling in mind that our identity from our birth to the final journey should be that of an Indian," Adityanath said. Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that while drafting the Constitution, Ambedkar ensured equal rights for all citizens and made an invaluable contribution to strengthening democratic values in the country....
