MLA announces life, medical insurance for Bagh Mitras
LUCKNOW, Sept. 13 -- Sarojini Nagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh on Saturday announced a series of welfare measures for 'Bagh Mitras' and other frontline wildlife workers at Mustafabad in Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, including proposed life insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh and medical cover of Rs 2 lakh.
The announcements were made during the 10th wildlife conservation programme organised by Environment Warriors in the Terai region. As many as 140 Bagh Mitras were honoured with certificates, torches and sarees, while raincoats and medical and first-aid kits were handed over to the forest department.
Singh said a special insurance camp would be organised during Wildlife Week in October to facilitate coverage for eligible Bagh Mitras. Five workers showing outstanding conservation efforts over the coming year will receive Rs 25,000 each. Their biodata will also be compiled to help connect them with suitable employment opportunities.
