Missing woman's body recovered from pond, suicide suspected
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 5 -- The body of a 19-year-old woman was recovered from a pond in Khakhaicha village, under Sarai Mamrez police station in the trans-Ganga area of Prayagraj district on Thursday morning. The deceased, identified as Kiran, a resident of the village, had been missing since late Tuesday night. The news of her death triggered an uproar among family members.
Family members and local villagers have alleged that Kiran was murdered by having her head crushed before her body was dumped in the pond. However, police, citing post-mortem report, have rejected the claim, stating that prima facie the case appears to be a suicide.
Police added that an investigation is currently underway following a written complaint filed by the deceased's family.
As per reports, Kiran, also known as Mansu, daughter of the late Rajendra Bhartiya of Khakhaicha village, went missing from her home around 2 am on Wednesday. Despite an extensive search by her family, she could not be found. The following morning, villagers discovered a body floating in a pond near the local government composite school (classes 1 to 8).
ACP (Handia) Sunil Singh, station house officer Sunil Mishra, and Janghai police outpost in-charge Umakant Yadav arrived at the scene and took the body in custody. The family members of the deceased informed the police that Kiran's father had died on August 10, followed by her grandfather on August 19. A ritual marking the 13th day of her grandfather Shivmurat Bhartiya's death was performed at their home on Tuesday. Family members added that Kiran had stepped out late that night after talking to someone on her mobile phone.
"The post-mortem report confirms the cause of death was drowning. The marks on her face are likely the result of wild animal activity. The claim that her head was crushed is unfounded. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide," said Pushkar Verma, additonal DCP (trans-Ganga). htc...
