Missing Gorakhpur boy found dead in neighbour's basement
GORAKHPUR, July 29 -- A 10-year-old boy who went missing after returning from school was found dead in the basement of a neighbour's house in Gorakhpur's Khajni town on Tuesday, prompting police to arrest a computer teacher on charges of murder.
Vaibhav Verma, a Class IV student and grandson of local gold trader Laxminarayan Verma, had disappeared on Monday after leaving home to play. His bicycle and slippers were later found abandoned in a nearby lane, following which his family alerted the police.
Police said CCTV footage and technical surveillance led them to the prime accused, Sarvesh Bhatt. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to strangling the child after an altercation and hiding the body in his basement.
The incident triggered protests, with residents blocking the road for nearly two hours demanding strict action. The body has been sent for post-mortem, while police are investigating the motive and possible involvement of others. htc...
