Lucknow, Aug. 13 -- Getting to and from a metro station could become easier for commuters as the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) launched an electric feeder service in Lucknow on Wednesday, aimed at plugging the crucial "last-mile" connectivity gap in the city's public transport network. The service, branded Anjaneya, was inaugurated at Amausi Metro station on Wednesday. It will initially operate on four routes, connecting metro stations with key surrounding areas and giving commuters an alternative to autos and other local modes for the final leg of their journey. The electric feeder vehicles will charge Rs.15 to Rs.50, depending on the route, and operate from 6am to 10.30pm. The service is being introduced in collaboration with Anjaneya. The move is significant for metro commuters who often face the challenge of reaching a station or completing the journey after getting off a train. UPMRC has equipped the vehicles with SOS emergency facilities. MD UPMRC Sushil Kumar said the use of electric vehicles will also support cleaner and more sustainable urban mobility.
