Marathi community celebrates Diwali
LUCKNOW, Oct. 23 -- A 104-year-old Marathi-speaking community in the city, Maharashtra Samaj Lucknow, celebrated "Diwali Pahaat" on Sunday. The "Diwali Pahaat" is a cherished Maharashtrian tradition celebrated across Maharashtra, where people begin the day of Narak Chaturdashi with an Abhyang Snan (auspicious oil bath), who then attend special early morning musical concerts with their families and friends. This was brought to life through an initiative by Sanjay Deshmankar and president Maharashtra Samaj, Vivek Phadke.
The highlight of the event was a morning concert by All India Radio (Akashwani) Mumbai artist Prajyot Dewaskar, who enthralled the audience with soulful renditions of Marathi Abhangs, Bhajans, Bhavgeet and Diwali special songs. He was also joined by his daughter, Aarna Dewaskar, who added youthful charm to the performance.
A Traditional Dress Competition was also organised, in which Sanjay Degloorkar, Prashant Joshi, Shweta Moghe and Shivani Londhe were declared winners. A Traditional Marathi "Faral" (snack) competition also recorded enthusiastic participation from women members showcasing homemade delicacies like Chakli, Karanji, Ladoo and Anarsa....
