Man shot dead outside Saharanpur exam centre
Meerut, June 10 -- A 27-year-old man was shot dead outside a police recruitment examination centre in Saharanpur on Tuesday in what police are investigating as a suspected case of honour killing. The victim's wife has accused her brother of orchestrating the murder because of their love marriage, which her family had allegedly opposed.
The deceased, identified as Shiv Kumar, was a resident of Shamli district. According to police, Kumar had accompanied his wife, Akanksha, to Gochar College in the Ram Singh Manihar area of Saharanpur, where she was appearing for the Uttar Pradesh Police recruitment examination.
Police said that after Akanksha entered the examination centre, Kumar remained outside waiting in his car. During this time, Akanksha's brother, Manjeet, allegedly arrived at the location with several associates and opened fire on Kumar from close range.
SHO Umed Kumar said doctors declared the victim dead after he was rushed to a nearby primary health centre.
In her complaint to police, Akanksha alleged that she and Shiv Kumar had married four months ago against her family's wishes. She claimed that her relatives, including her brother Manjeet, had strongly opposed the marriage and had been threatening the couple since their wedding. Akanksha accused her brother of killing her husband out of resentment over the inter-family dispute arising from their love marriage. Members of Kumar's family also alleged that the murder was linked to longstanding tensions between the families. htc...
