Man posing as army officer held for duping youth of over Rs.15 lakh
VARANASI, April 1 -- A man accused of posing as an army officer and duping unemployed youth of over Rs.15 lakh with false job promises was arrested by the STF Varanasi unit near Brij Enclave under the Bhelupur police station area on Tuesday.
The accused was identified as Dharmendra Pandey. The STF also recovered two mobile phones, two ministry of defence ID cards, three PAN cards, three Aadhaar cards, two driving licenses, three debit cards, two mark sheets, and one educational certificate from his possession.
Pandey is described by the STF as a cunning individual who used multiple fake documents-including three Aadhaar cards, three PAN cards and two driving licenses from different addresses-to open bank accounts and avoid detection. He had created a fake ID card identifying himself as a "commanding officer, army intelligence Alpha-1 (Colonel)" to deceive people.
He used this false identity to lure young people with promises of jobs in the army, railways, education department and paramilitary forces, subsequently extorting large sums of money. When the victims requested their money back, he would deflect by promising to secure employment in other departments.
A case has been registered against accused Dharmendra Pandey under various sections of BNS at Bhelupur police station, Varanasi district. Further legal proceedings will be carried out by the local police. htc...
