KANPUR, Sept. 15 -- A 52-year-old man serving a life sentence in a Madhya Pradesh jail allegedly killed his wife with a trident at their home in Mahoba on Monday morning, just 13 days after being released on parole. Kallan Raikwar, who was serving his sentence at Satna jail, had returned to his village, Ragauliya Buzurg, on September 1 on a 14-day parole. Mahoba additional SP Vandana Singh said he had been suspicious for some time that his wife, Champa, 48, was mixing a poisonous or intoxicating substance in his food. The suspicion led to an argument between the couple on Monday morning. During the quarrel, Kallan allegedly picked up a trident kept in the house and repeatedly struck Champa on the head and neck. She collapsed and died on the spot. Kallan did not attempt to flee after the attack. Police said he remained at the house beside his wife's body for nearly three hours before informing his family and the police about killing. The incident took place in Ragauliya Buzurg, around 38 km from the Mahoba district headquarters, under the Kul Pahad police station area. Police received information through the police response vehicle service and reached the house. Kallan was taken into custody and is being questioned. Singh said senior police officers and a forensic team inspected the scene after being informed about the killing. Kallan was already serving a life sentence for killing his 10-month-old granddaughter in Naugaon, Satna, Madhya Pradesh, in 2014 by smashing her against a stone.
