LUCKNOW, July 21 -- Students, including researchers, besides activists took out a 'Shiksha Bachao March' from Lucknow University to Shaheed Smarak on Monday, demanding protection of education, student rights and democratic values on the campus. Students from various colleges and universities in the city took part in the march. Carrying placards and the national flag, participants raised slogans against the alleged fee hike, paper leaks, neglect of student issues and the alleged growing privatisation of education. They said education is the biggest strength of any democracy and if it becomes expensive, unequal and inaccessible, the country's future will be at stake. They demanded that the government and the Lucknow University administration address all pending student-related issues seriously. During the march, students highlighted six key demands: rollback of the fee hike, action against paper leaks, justice for expelled students, protection of democratic rights on campuses an end to the alleged neglect of student welfare, and measures to stop the commercialisation of education. Vishal Singh, a student leader at Lucknow University, stressed that the protest was not against any individual but aimed at safeguarding education, the Constitution and the future of youth. "Education must be accessible, equal and of good quality for all. If we do not raise our voice now, the coming generations will suffer," Singh said.htc...
