Lko man hangs self; pressure over loan EMIs likely cause
Lucknow, May 16 -- A 36-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in the Ashiana area of Lucknow, late on Wednesday night, with family members alleging that mounting pressure over unpaid vehicle loan instalments drove him to take the extreme step.
According to the police, the man was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf inside his rented accommodation in Ruchi Khand, where he lived with his wife. The incident came to light when his wife discovered him late at night and raised an alarm.
Hearing her cries, neighbours and the landlord rushed to the house and took him to Lokbandhu Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Family members told police that he had been under severe mental stress for the past several months due to financial difficulties. He had recently financed a DCM commercial vehicle and was required to pay an EMI of Rs.35,000. However, he had allegedly defaulted on payments for the last three months.
The family further alleged that bank officials had been repeatedly calling him and threatening to seize the vehicle over the pending dues. Relatives claimed the fear of losing his only source of livelihood had pushed him into depression.
Ashiana police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Sub-inspector Shubham Mehdiyan, in-charge of the Ashiana Fort outpost, said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination....
