lightning strikes: 7 die in Fatehpur
Kanpur, Oct. 2 -- Lightning strikes across different parts of Fatehpur district claimed seven lives on Wednesday. Several others were injured.
The fatalities occurred as residents, caught in heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, sought shelter under trees and near electric poles-many while tending to cattle or returning from work.
In Lalauli police limits, Ravi Pal and his son Rishabh were grazing sheep in Dattoli village when lightning struck the tree they had taken cover under. Both died on the spot.
In Jarouli village, under Asothar police station, Neeraj Gupta and Kallu Gupta were struck while sheltering beneath a tree. Bipin Raidas, who was with them, sustained severe burns and later died in hospital.
In Ghazipur, under Sadar tehsil, Deshraj, a retired railway employee, was returning from a relative's house when he was caught in the rain. He stood under a banyan tree, where a lightning bolt proved fatal.
In Korra Sadat village, under the Thariyaon police station, Sana Bano was working in the fields when she took shelter under a tree. She was killed instantly by a lightning strike.
Another death was reported from Afzalpur in the Kishanpur-Khaga region, where Jagesharan Nishad was grazing buffaloes when lightning struck him.
