LUCKNOW, July 16 -- A special Pocso court in Lucknow has sentenced two men to rigorous life imprisonment for abducting and gang-raping a minor girl, in a case registered at Banthra police station in 2022. The court also fined each convict Rs.65,000. "The verdict was delivered on July 14 by the Special Judge (POCSO Act)/Additional Sessions Judge, Lucknow, in Case No. 63 of 2023, arising out of FIR registered under Sections 363, 366A and 376D(B) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 5/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act," said ADCP South Vasanth Rallapalli. "The convicts have been identified as Rameshwar Rawat, 28, son of late Putti Lal, and Anuj Rawat, 21, son of Satya Narayan. Both are residents of Khandedev village under Banthra police station limits," he added. According to inspector Rana Rajesh Kumar, in-charge of Banthra police station, the two were found guilty of abducting and sexually assaulting a minor girl. Besides rigorous life imprisonment, the court ordered each convict to pay a fine of Rs.65,000. In default of payment, they will undergo an additional one year and five months in prison. The conviction was secured under the UP Police's Operation Conviction initiative, which aims to ensure speedy investigation and effective prosecution of criminal cases to secure higher conviction rates....
