BAHRAICH, Sept. 7 -- A leopard that had been roaming near Jugrajpur village in the Nanpara forest range for several days was captured by the forest department on Saturday, officials said. The leopard had reportedly been venturing into populated areas and preying on livestock, causing fear among villagers. Following repeated complaints, forest officials installed a baited cage near the village and intensified patrolling in the area. On Saturday, the leopard entered the cage after being lured by a goat used as bait and was trapped. A crowd of villagers gathered at the spot after learning about the capture. Forest officials subsequently transported the caged leopard to the Nanpara range office. Divisional forest officer (DFO) Sundaresh confirmed the capture and said the department had been tracking the animal's movements after receiving several reports of its presence near the village.
