NEW DELHI, April 3 -- Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday told a Delhi court that a revision petition assailing the dismissal of a plea seeking an FIR against him is an abuse of law, as mere criticism of a political ideology has vaguely been categorised as "hate speech" and "defamation". Kharge made the submissions before Special Judge Jitendra Singh of Rouse Avenue courts, seeking the dismissal of the revision plea. The court was hearing the revision plea filed by one Ravinder Gupta, a lawyer, who has claimed that Kharge made a scathing remark against PM Narendra Modi and the RSS during an election rally in Karnataka on April 27, 2023. Kharge said, "The proceedings pursued by the revisionist are nothing but an abuse of the procedure established under law, as mere criticism of ideology of political proponents has been vaguely categorised as hate speech and defamation."
