KGMU doctors remove 2.5-kg rare tumour from woman's chest
LUCKNOW, May 3 -- A team of doctors at King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, gave a new lease of life to a 25-year-old woman by removing a rare 2.5-kg germ cell tumour from her chest.
The patient, Shagun Yadav, had been undergoing treatment for suspected TB at multiple healthcare facilities in Lucknow since June 2025. Her condition continued to deteriorate with symptoms, including severe breathlessness, chest pain, fever and fatigue, said a press release shared with the media.
Doctors said the tumour had affected her right lung and was exerting pressure on her heart and major blood vessels.
Shagun first reported breathing difficulties and a rapid heartbeat in June 2025.
The patient was admitted to KGMU on April 6, 2026, where a team led by Prof Suresh Kumar from the department of general surgery reviewed her case. The high-risk operation was performed on April 21. htc...
