KGMU clarifies on digital treatment system
LUCKNOW, June 15 -- King George's Medical University (KGMU) on Sunday issued a clarification regarding the digital treatment mechanism being implemented for patients registered under the government's scheme for incurable and chronic diseases, stating that reports suggesting funds would be transferred directly to patients' personal bank accounts were incorrect and misleading.
In a statement, the university said a transparent and fully cashless digital system has been introduced for treatment under the scheme. Once a patient is issued a treatment card, the doctor prepares an estimate of expenses. After admission, an equivalent amount is credited as a virtual balance to an account linked to the patient's Unique Digital Identification Number within the hospital system.
KGMU said no money is transferred to the personal bank accounts of patients or attendants. Medicines and diagnostic services are provided through digital adjustment of the virtual balance. If treatment costs exceed the allocated amount, the balance can be enhanced on the recommendation of the treating physician, it said. htc...
