Toronto, Aug. 10 -- Canadian law enforcement has announced the arrest of 32-year-old Abdul Ghafoori and charged him in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Indian national Himanshi Khurana in Toronto in December 2025. A release issued by Toronto Police Service (TPS) on Saturday said Ghafoori was arrested on Friday and charged with first-degree murder. "Members of the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad and Homicide and Missing Persons Unit liaised with national and international policing partners to facilitate the accused's return to Canada," the release noted. However, it did not mention which country he had fled to after allegedly committing the killing. Canadian law enforcement had issued a countrywide warrant for Ghafoori's arrest after the murder occurred on December 20 last year. The charge of first-degree murder can attract a life sentence without parole if the prosecution can prove premeditation and intent. On December 19, Toronto Police officers responded to a call to locate a missing person. That came at 10.41 pm and an investigation started.
