In-principle deal with government done: Ladakh organisations
Jammu, May 23 -- The Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance on Friday claimed they reached an in-principle understanding with the Union home ministry on restoring democracy in Ladakh and providing constitutional safeguards on the lines of Article 371, as applicable to Nagaland, Sikkim and Mizoram.
Following a sub-committee meeting in New Delhi - the first in nearly four months - both sides agreed on a framework under which legislative, executive and financial powers would vest in elected representatives through a UT-level body, with bureaucrats including the chief secretary reporting to an elected executive head.
