Illegal mining in Mirzapur under NGT scanner
LUCKNOW, Feb. 28 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken a serious note of illegal stone mining crushers operating in Mirzapur.
The issue came to light through a petition raising concern over environmental violations in Bhagoti Dei, Sonpur, Biyahur and Chakjata villages in Mirzapur.
The petitioner also pointed out illegal mining operations, unlawful blasting, severe dust pollution, damage to residential structures, and environmental threats, including potential impact on the nearby Jargo Dam.
The NGT bench comprising Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi and expert member Afroz Ahmad delivered the judgment directing a series of measures to check environmental pollution.
Earlier, the Tribunal had constituted a joint committee consisting representatives from the Regional Office of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Directorate of Geology and Mining (Uttar Pradesh), Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), and the DM of Mirzapur to investigate the matter. htc...
