Hearing impairment no longer barrier to getting driving licence
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 22 -- Now, people with complete hearing impairment can also avail driving licences. Officials said all regional transport officers (RTOs) in the state have been asked to issue the licences to such people after the state government issued an order to this effect earlier this month.
The GO was in response to a circular issued by the Union ministry of road transport and highways earlier this year on September 8.
ARTO (administration), Prayagarj Rajeev Chaturvedi, said the government order dated December 16 was regarding issuing driving licence to applicants with hearing impairment after they pass a driving test. "So far no request from such applicants has been received," he said. The instructions were issued in Uttar Pradesh following a demand from the All Uttar Pradesh Deaf Association, sources said.
As per the directives issued by the ministry, hearing-impaired individuals should be issued a driving license without discrimination after passing the driving test, regardless of the degree of their hearing loss. HTC...
