Health official caught taking Rs.50,000 bribe
LUCKNOW, April 9 -- A block-level health department official was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a Rs.50,000 bribe from a complainant on the promise of securing a sweeper's job at a primary health centre in Pratapgarh, officials said.
According to a press release issued by the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment, Prayagraj Sector, the complainant approached the superintendent of police, vigilance, on Monday, alleging that Amit Kumar Mishra, block programme manager at CHC Baghrai, demanded Rs.1.5 lakh to arrange a sweeper's job at PHC Hardo Patti. Officials said he sought Rs.50,000 in advance, with the rest due within a week. A team led by inspector Nanhe Ram Saroj raided the BPMU office at CHC Baghrai at 12.35 pm on Wednesday and caught him red-handed accepting Rs.50,000.
