PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 26 -- The Allahabad high court has stayed proceedings in a criminal case registered against former Uttar Pradesh minister Kunwar Rewati Raman Singh who allegedly tried to enter a polling centre illegally at Lekhpal Training School in Kareli area here during the 2024 general elections. Singh had reached the polling centre where he had an altercation with police officials.Justice Samir Jain passed the order on August 21 in a petition filed by Singh. According to the petitioner's counsel, no offence was committed by the applicant as only allegation against him was that he was present near the polling booth in violation of terms and condition of permission and no allegations were there in the FIR that he had raised any slogan or he tried to obstruct the police, but in spite of that the trial court had taken cognizance in the present matter.The FIR in the present case was lodged at Kareli police station on May 25, 2024 against Kunwar Rewati Raman Singh, his driver and his 50 unknown supporters alleging that on the day of election the applicant was present near the polling booth and when police arrived there, his supporters started raising slogans and they tried to obstruct the police officials from performing their official duty.
