LUCKNOW, Sept. 10 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Wednesday sought an affidavit from the Uttar Pradesh government on pending cases related to remission of sentences (early release) of prisoners. A bench of Justices Rajan Roy and Manjive Shukla directed the state to file the affidavit by September 11, vetted by the additional chief secretary or principal secretary, prison administration and reforms. The court had earlier sought a complete list of pending early-release proposals and reasons for their pendency.
