HC quashes dismissal of former KMCLU VC
LUCKNOW, Aug. 6 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Wednesday set aside the dismissal order of Prof Mahrukh Mirza, former vice-chancellor of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University (KMCLU), Lucknow, and directed the university to reinstate him with half back wages from March 10, 2024 till date.
Pronouncing the judgment on a writ petition filed by prof Mirza, Justice Rajeev Singh held that the disciplinary proceedings were based on "conjectures and surmises" and key charges were not substantiated. Three charge-sheets with 37 charges were issued to prof Mirza between January and May 2023. The university's executive council, on March 10, 2024, held him guilty on three counts and dismissed him from service.
The court rejected the university's preliminary objection on maintainability of the petition.
The court directed payment of 50% salary. It is to be paid within three months, the court said.htc...
