HC orders production of man detained by father over conversion, marriage
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 13 -- The Allahabad high court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government and Devraj Singh Malik, the father of a 31-year-old Shamli man, Ayush Malik, to produce him before the court on September 16 following allegations that he was being illegally detained by his father after conversion to Islam and marriage to a Muslim woman, Chandni Qureshi.
Hearing a habeas corpus petition, Justice Sandeep Jain, in a September 9 order, said allegations of illegal detention and involvement of state authorities were serious and accordingly directed Ayush's production.
Claiming to be Ayush's friend, Sultan, the petitioner no. 2, said he (Ayush) was unlawfully deprived of his personal liberty and was being kept in illegal custody of his father with the active assistance of the state machinery.
Sultan claimed that Ayush sought his assistance to secure his release from the alleged illegal detention by his father and state authorities.
Devraj Singh Malik denied the allegations, claiming members of the minority community are trying to take away his son and the court case is part of their strategy....
