JODHPUR, Sept. 21 -- The Rajasthan High Court on Sunday granted interim protection from arrest to a Municipal Board ward member contesting the Chairman's election in Kuchera, Nagaur, a day before the September 21 polls, after questioning the timing of a corruption complaint. The petitioner, elected from Ward 21 on September 14, filed his nomination for Chairman on September 16. His counsel, Ramawatar Choudhary, said the petitioner had served as chairman from 2015 to 2018, during which Ward 3 member Shaitanram Tak filed an ACB complaint alleging financial and administrative irregularities. Choudhary said no action was taken for eight years, but after he won the ward election and entered the Chairman's race, the Local Self Government department granted sanction under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act on September 18. An FIR was registered at 11.58pm the same day and, he alleged, was uploaded on the website only at 3.30pm on September 19.
