Ground staff protest hits Mumbai flights
New Delhi, May 19 -- At least 36 flights at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were delayed on Monday after a protest by around 100 ground staff disrupted baggage handling and aircraft turnaround operations, affecting several airlines across terminals.
The protest was carried out by employees of AI Air Services Limited (AIASL), a government-owned ground handling agency that services Air India group carriers as well as more than 70 foreign airlines operating from Mumbai. According to Flightradar24, around 58% of the airport's departing flights were delayed as of 8 pm.
An airline official said at least 25 of Air India's roughly 120 daily departures from Mumbai were delayed because of the disruption. However, the impact was not limited to the Air India group. htc...
