LUCKNOW, Oct. 9 -- The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Lucknow, has been closed until Sunday and all scheduled examinations postponed indefinitely after rising waters from the swollen Gomti inundated a major portion of the campus. The institute administration evacuated around 800 hostellers to nearby accommodations, while nearly 300 other students opted to return home. The campus electricity supply has been entirely disconnected. "Examinations are postponed and arrangements have been made for the safe evacuation of students from the campus," stated IIIT Lucknow dean (academics) Deepak Kumar Singh. He said water level on the campus increased further on Thursday. Teaching and academic activities have been shifted to the online mode. Faculty members and staff have also been advised to work from home for the next two days," he added Heavy waterlogging on the road connecting Ekana ramp on Shaheed Path towards the Palassio 'Y' cut prompted traffic police to temporarily divert traffic on the stretch on Thursday. As per the traffic police advisory, vehicles approaching the intersection from Ekana stadium tiraha will not be allowed to proceed on the usual route. They will have to turn left from Ekana stadium and use gates 3, 4 and 5 to reach their destinations. "Vehicles coming from Overhead Chauraha towards Palassio intersection and further towards the Y-cut/Tender Palm Hospital will not be allowed to proceed on the affected stretch. Such vehicles will have to take a U-turn at Palassio intersection and continue towards their destination," informed traffic department in a press statement. HTC...
