New Delhi, July 18 -- The central government on Friday removed IPS officer Satish Golchha as the Delhi Police commissioner, nine months before his term ended, and replaced him with Intelligence Bureau (IB) special director Anurag Kumar in an unusual decision that surprised the ranks. Kumar, a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, succeeded Golchha, who was appointed Delhi Police commissioner on August 21, 2025. Kumar's return to his parent cadre was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."With the approval of the Competent Authority, Anurag Kumar, IPS (AGMUT:1994) is hereby appointed as Commissioner of Police, Delhi with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders," the order stated....
