Fresh probe initiated into man's death after wife suspects murder
PRAYAGRAJ, March 24 -- Fresh allegations have emerged in the death of Santosh Kumar (40), a fish farmer whose body was found floating in a pond on October 20, 2025, in Jafarpur Mahawan village under the Pashchim Sharira police station limits of Kaushambi district.
What was initially suspected to be an accident is now being treated as a case of suspected murder, police said.
According to the police, the accused allegedly offered alcohol to Kumar and, after he became intoxicated, repeatedly forced him underwater in the pond, leading to his death. The motive is believed to be an ongoing dispute over the uprooting of a jackfruit tree.
The deceased's wife, Santoshi Devi, has alleged that her husband was deliberately killed by a group of villagers identified as Bhimraj alias Chhotka, Lavkush (son of Pratap), Bhola (son of Jagannath), and Phoolchandra (son of Baijnath). She claimed that the accused, along with their associates, first made her husband heavily intoxicated and then drowned him. To mislead authorities, they allegedly left the body in the pond to make the incident appear accidental before fleeing the scene.
Santoshi Devi said she initially approached the police after the incident, but no action was taken. She subsequently filed a petition in court. Acting on the court's directive, the police registered a case on Sunday and initiated an investigation.htc...
