LUCKNOW, Sept. 6 -- A four-member gang allegedly came to Lucknow from Delhi and went on a chain-snatching spree, targeting four people across the city in about seven hours, police said on Saturday. Two alleged interstate chain-snatchers - Abhishek Gupta alias Jaanu, 26, and Brijeshwar Agnihotri alias Vasu, 19 - were arrested and two vehicles, including an EV allegedly bought with Rs.1.35 lakh earned from selling a snatched chain, was recovered. DCP (north) Amit K Anand said the suspects travelled from Delhi to Lucknow on August 5 and stayed at a hotel. Their first alleged strike was around 11.30pm on August 6 near Indira Nagar in the Ghazipur area. The gang allegedly resumed its spree the next morning, striking around 5.30am near Sector 4 in Vikas Nagar, 6am near Sangam intersection in Aliganj and 6.40am in Gudamba. After the fourth incident, they allegedly regrouped near Kukrail. Gupta, Agnihotri and another accused, Abhishek Valmiki, left for Delhi, while the fourth accused, Dev Gupta, allegedly headed towards Kannauj on a motorcycle. Police examined CCTV footage from the four crime scenes and traced a vehicle registration number to Delhi. A police team located Gupta and Agnihotri near Euler Motors, officials said. Their alleged involvement in the Lucknow cases emerged during questioning. Police said the stolen chains were sold by Valmiki and the gang received Rs.1.35 lakh, which was allegedly used to purchase an EV. A car allegedly used in the offences, was also recovered. htc...
