LUCKNOW, Sept. 10 -- Lucknow Police have arrested five alleged members of an interstate gang accused of stealing from railway passengers, recovering Rs.1.24 lakh in suspected stolen cash and a scooter allegedly used in the crimes. Police on Tuesday said the accused posed as railway vendors selling water, earphones and gutkha to blend into crowds. They allegedly bought platform tickets, entered stations legitimately and targeted passengers, particularly in crowded general compartments.Police identified the alleged gang leader as 35-year-old Sandeep Sudhakar Tijore of Maharashtra, who has several theft cases registered against him with railway and local police in Mumbai and Nashik. His associates were Arvind Gupta, 35, of Sonbhadra, a water seller; Kunal Vilas Sirsath, 24, of Nashik, who sold gutkha inside trains; Javed Akhtar, 25, of Mumbai, who allegedly acted as an associate and recruiter; and Sonu, 30, of Gonda, who sold earphones. htc...
