FIR registered in Vns over alleged death threat to seer
VARANASI, April 12 -- An FIR was registered on Saturday at Bhelupur police station in Varanasi in connection with an alleged death threat issued to Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati over a phone call on April 8, police said.
The complaint was lodged by the seer's disciple, Paramatmanand, who alleged that an unidentified caller threatened to shoot him, similar to the killing of Atiq Ahmed. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under sections 351(4) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), officials said.
Assistant commissioner of police (Bhelupur) Gaurav Kumar confirmed the registration of the FIR. "An investigation into the matter is underway, and strict action will be taken against those found involved," he said.
Avimukteshwaranand media in-charge Sanjay Pandey said the development marks a "victory for justice and righteousness". He added that the seer has been leading the "Gau Mata-Rashtra Mata" campaign across the country for the past few years, aimed at ending cow slaughter in India.
He further said that from May 3, a 'Gau Raksha Yatra' will be undertaken across every assembly constituency in UP. During the outreach, people will be encouraged to raise their voices for cow protection and promote the establishment of a cow sanctuary in each constituency.
Pandey claimed that the campaign has drawn opposition from certain groups, and that the seer has received multiple death threats in the past as well. htc...
