Fir against Army major, 15 jawans for assaulting cop, home guard
Dehradun, Aug. 11 -- Uttarakhand police have booked an alleged army major and 15 unidentified defence personnel for assaulting a home guard volunteer and a constable over an alleged tiff resulting from a traffic check in Chamoli district, officers said.
Chamoli SP Surjeet Singh Panwar said, "We have registered an FIR in the matter, and the investigation is underway."
Lt Col Chetan Singh Kabsuri, defence PRO Dehradun, said, "We have learnt about the incident through newspapers. The investigation is underway."
According to the complaint filed by constable Vijay Singh, one of the victims, the incident allegedly took place on August 8 when home guard Dinesh Singh was managing traffic near Mana bridge and saw an army gypsy.
Dinesh alleged that the man in civilian clothes was sitting with a driver inside the gyps and identified himself as Major Anmol Preet. Soon, the man became enraged over being stuck in traffic for a long time. People aware of the matter said that the accused major was posted in the 64 Assault Engineer Regiment....
