LUCKNOW, Sept. 25 -- The Faizabad Bar Association on Thursday raised questions over the charge sheet filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Ram temple donation theft case before a local court in Ayodhya on Wednesday. Advocates alleged that people against whom an investigation had been sought were made witnesses instead of accused in the case. Lawyers said they had sought an investigation against then Ram Mandir Teerth Kshetra Trust functionaries Champat Rai, Anil Mishra, Gopal Rao and Krishna Mohan, among others. They claimed they had earlier been assured that these persons would be brought under the ambit of the probe, but the charge sheet names them as witnesses instead of accused. The Bar president advocate Kalika Prasad Tiwari raised questions over the recovery and case property, claiming that the amount allegedly stolen had not been clearly ascertained. Advocates said the charge sheet runs into several thousand pages, though they admitted they had not been able to go through it in its entirety. "Champat Rai, Gopal Rao, Anil Mishra and Krishna Mohan are there who should have been made accused, but they have been made witnesses... Now all these people together are trying to save eight people who are lodged in jail," Tiwari said on Thursday. "We have a team of legal experts, including big criminal lawyers. Neither their government counsel nor the circle officer gave any reply to the arguments put forth by them," he claimed....
