Fadnavis turns to heritage to reach Gen-Z
Mumbai, Aug. 15 -- With the BJP-led Mahayuti government seeking greater engagement with Gen Z, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is using social media, cultural heritage and nationalism to connect with young people.
The outreach comes after student protests at Jantar Mantar and in parts of Maharashtra. The government has announced 1,000 job fairs across the state, while Fadnavis has begun highlighting Maharashtra's heritage temples of Lord Shiva during the holy month of Shravan.
The initiative also follows RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent interaction with Gen Z, where he said, "The youth should be connected to their roots and Indian culture". Fadnavis posted an AI-generated video on X on Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga in Pune district and on Friday shared a video on the Trimbakeshwar temple in Nashik. The video features a grandfather explaining the temple's cultural heritage to his two grandchildren, who are shown expressing interest in exploring such sites. "Maharashtra's Shivdhara begins today on the holy month of Shravan; because when the youth connect with their culture, this religious and historical heritage will be preserved," Fadnavis said.
