LUCKNOW, June 19 -- The Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) has sought records from Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University (ABVMU) regarding the grant of salaries, allowances and other service benefits to its medical faculty on par with King George's Medical University (KGMU) without prior government approval. In a letter dated May 25, 2026, DGME finance controller Shailesh Giri directed the university to furnish all documents and information related to the decision. The university was also asked to nominate a competent officer to facilitate the submission of records. Jyotsna, registrar of ABVMU, said the university has already submitted its response to the DGME. The inquiry will examine the basis on which KGMU-equivalent pay and allowances were extended to ABVMU faculty and whether the required government sanction was obtained before the decision was implemented. Officials will also review the approval process, identify the authority that cleared the proposal, and assess whether any rules or procedures were violated. HTC...
