LUCKNOW, July 27 -- Prompt intervention by a 102 ambulance team ensured the safe delivery of a baby inside the vehicle after a high-risk pregnant woman went into labour while being referred to a hospital in Lucknow on Sunday, despite the newborn's umbilical cord being wrapped around its neck. Komal, wife of Kaushal Kumar and a resident of Chak Amava in Sarojini Nagar, was initially taken to Behta Community Health Centre (CHC) after she developed labour pain. During examination, doctors found the umbilical cord wrapped around the baby's neck and referred her to the MCH Hospital in Sarojini Nagar, according to a press release issued on Sunday. While she was being shifted in a 102 ambulance, her labour pain intensified. Emergency medical technician (EMT) Usha Devi, assisted by pilot Sunil Kumar, stopped the ambulance and conducted the delivery inside the vehicle. The EMT removed the umbilical cord loop from around the baby's neck before delivering the infant. After consulting Dr Satya through the ambulance call centre, the mother was administered normal saline, injections and other emergency treatment.
