LUCKNOW, April 8 -- Protests erupted overnight at Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) in Lucknow after video allegedly mocking persons with disabilities (PwDs) surfaced online, prompting road blockades and police action. The university later suspended three students for a week as a disciplinary measure. Students blocked Mohan Road on Tuesday, alleging video hurt their sentiments and claiming a delay in FIR registration. Police registered an FIR under Section 92 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and BNS 356 (3). As per university order issued by Prof CK Dixit, proctor, Akriti Singh, Ashita and Ishita, the three first-year BBA students, have been barred from campus for a week and will assist differently-abled girl students for one month after suspension.
