CHENNAI, July 21 -- Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLA Markandayan GV was on Monday arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay at a recent public meeting, police said on Monday.
Based on a complaint filed by functionary of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), P Kasiram, over the alleged speech made by the leader during a public meeting on July 18 in Thoothukudi, Tuticorin police arrested the MLA from Vilathikulam assembly constituency from his residence, police said.
According to a senior police officer, he was arrested under BNS sections including intimidation, intentional insult with an intent to provoke public peace and sharing false information.
Earlier, on July 3, DMK MLA Anita R Radhakrishnan was also arrested over alleged defamatory comments against CM Vijay.
